How do you teach a horse to keep a calm collected canter?

I have a 9 year old QH mare. She has lots of spirit and power beneath her strides and i have trouble getting her to slow canter. She has very long stides so whenever i try to keep her canter slow she's off balanced and loses her stride and drops back down to a trot where she's more comfortable, And because her strides are long she can trot just as fast as a canter so i guess that's why she doesn't want to canter slow(deciding to stick with what feels easier to her.) Are there any suggestions on how to encourage her to canter slowly instead of rushing or putting to much power in her strides?

Horse resisting leg aids?

My 5 year old gelding is resisting my leg aid. Whenever I apply the aids he puts his ears back, head up and stiffens his body in the trot and he begins to resist going forward. Whenever I ask for the canter aid he often kicks out (this did develop into a serious bucking issue which I used the "circle" method to stop him from bucking) and now he will often just kick out and rarely a buck. Sometimes he doesn't kick but he is still resisting the aid and often he will fall into the canter and rush. Another issue is sometimes he will just ignore my leg (especially on the right rein) and not listen at all (but this will eventually develop again into him misbehaving). I would like some suggestions on what I can do to help him accept my leg.. he is an extremely sensitive horse and I am hardly using my leg at all, it is a very light squeeze and I mostly ride him from my seat. When I was on the ground I found another thing that was unusual.. when I put pressure in the spot where my leg would be he would put his ears back and turn his head to me (but I am certain he is not sore in any way, we have had the vet check this).. What could be the problem and what can I do to fix the situation?

My horse back riding lesson horse made riding unbearable....?

And I quit horseback riding awhile back, mostly because of the instructor and frustation at riding that horse .Let me give you some examples and background information. The instructor bought this 20-something year old horse that would not follow any commands, although she had a previous owner. She hardly was even able to when she arrived at the stables. Her first rider was a 9 year old basically training it, which I find astonishing and highly unsafe (the little girl ended up quiting too.) My instructor is a terrific rider and trainer, but refused to take the time to work often with this horse because "she was too uncomfortable, hurt her back, and didn't have the time," as said in the instuctor's own words. The horse was very sway backed to the point of where a trot was spine jolting, and made worse by the horse's nervousness. It was always very irritated, frightened and I had to work hard at CONSTANTLY keeping her head down and relaxed, which she always tried to fling around while foaming at the mouth. I have always kept confidence in myself while riding her, and kept calm which was my instructors main motivation for always putting me on the horse. There was a rainy day when she spooked and tried to run me over. There were countless days where I would have to FIGHT with this horse to pick her hoofs. There was always a thought in my head that at anymore this horse could wipe me off the side of a wall. This is really the only horse she would put me on because I outgrew the rest and I was the only one most experienced to ride her. My question is, am I wrong in thinking that she was trying to kill me? :p but seriously, is this really bad instructing and if I was to continue lessons again, should I not return to her(she's the closest in my area)? Or should i suck it up and see it as riding a difficult horse taught me much more than I would have learned on any other horse?

Our daughter is 31 years old an just got engaged. The couple has lived together for 2 years. While I am very happy for her I have mixed feelings as to who should pay for the wedding. Me and my boyfriend have been together for a little less then a month now. We have dated once before but it only lasted a month at least as well. Can i take my 7 month old puppy for a run on my bike?

My puppy is a pit bull/heeler mix and he is about 7 months old, and I've been trying to take him on a couple of bike rides around my neighborhood but he seems to have a hard time running. The most he can do is an extremely light trot. At first I thought it might be because the pavement was too hot but I yesterday I tried taking when it cooled down but nothing changed. Also just yesterday, when I tried to run him during the day, he wouldn't even leave my driveway. Is it possible that's he just too young or was the hot pavement stopping him. I got my five year old out, after I made a make shift round pen. Only then it kinda turned in to a rectangle pen made out of yarn...Anyway. I ran her for an hour and 30 minutes. Just a walk and trot, a little bit of a lope. She had her ear on me the whole time licked her lips and chewed some then stopped and didn't do it anymore. Why is my horse lame?

intermediate sounds fair. It depends on the camp though-if you're going to some girl scout or park district camp, you'd probably be considered advanced because "beginner" usually means they haven't ridden. If you're going to a legit riding camp (which I'm assuming you are, since they asked about jumping), intermediate is fair.

Nothing in my entire wardrobe looks good on me! What do I do?

It's terrible because my closet is stuffed full of both my clothes and my sister's clothes (which we usually share) but everything I wear looks horrible on me. Hi. I am 12 years old and I ride horses. Me and my horse back riding instructor have always got along. She is being so rude lately. A girl had a party so I went. Because that's the nice thing to do. She leaves me a rude message. Like " In the contract you singed. You have to let me know if your not coming 24 hours in advanced." So I said "I'm sorry." That's not all she does. She posted on her wall a picture of a horse i put in the wrong album. I put it in the me and Dream album. She posted it to her wall saying "That's Amber not Dream". I say sorry again for no reason. She puts the horse I ride as her picture and says "Big girl hasn't got ridden in awhile." I missed it one time and forgot to call. She also Dident letting me canter gallop or jump only trotting. I have been riding for awhile and i don't think its fair. And when ever i help out she never lets me sigh the log anymore. I have try-ed talking to her but then she Just gets mad at me. I really don't know what to do... please help?

What should i look for as in clothing style? hair style? and makeup colors?

I am 5 foot 6 inches and I have a mixture of an apple and pear shape. I am broad shouldered, kinda big stomach, bigger butt, thighs and hips. I have shoulder length, thick wavy hair that is brown. It has a weird way of growing. It grows to a certain length on the sides then slowly starts getting thicker and Sloooooly starts growing out more, while the back grows faster, and as it gets longer it gets thinner. And with makeup, I have a fair skin tone, hazel eyes, and some acne. Any fashion, hair, and makeup advice Would be wonderful! Oh and btw wit makeup how do I make my eyes look bigger? Don't do it!!!! Henna should only be used if you have VIRGIN hair...as in, not coloring or lightening processes have been done to it. Blond hair will turn green sometimes, or orange. Trust me!

My horse is pushy in the field and trots at me anyone can help?

How old is he? Has he always been like this? If this is when you are going to catch him he might not just want to be caught, hide the halter and lead behind your back and take a treat in with you. He seems like he does not respect you, how loong have you owned him for? This is a problem that comes with alot of horses, this does not mean they are bad they are just difficult to catch, the rearing is a problem and can be dangerous for you, confront him from the side and wrap the lead around his neck when you catch him, give him a treat whilst you put the halter on, train him so he knows if he comes and is good he will get a treat, basically like teach a dog to sit. He is probably just being pushy and you need to show him your the boss but you cant let him get away with these things anymore as he is just going to keep going and think you cant handle him, take someone else in the paddock with you, preferably an experienced or a strong person. When i was young my horse used to do this and my dad would have to help me, but eventually she knew to stop pushing me around cause i was the one with the carrots ;) but you will probably find they will still have a few stubborn cheeky days, just be careful and try and relax him by using the T-Touch method, on his neck near the roots of his mane scratch in a circular motion, i hope i helped.

Can you do the liberty class at the fair if you just ride walk trot?

i really want to do liberty at our county fair(because my grandpa says we can not do it, that my horse will not be good at it so i want to prove him wrong), but i have had a few people tell me that you can only do it if you are walk/trot/canter, so i asked my barn owner (she use to be one of the advisors in the 4-h group that rode out of our barn but has since been disbanded, long story) and she said she thinks you can because its based on the horse not the rider. then i asked my 4-h advisor and she said she doesn't know but she would get back with me when she did. i think she forgot though, but on tuesday im going up to our 4-h extension office to ask and get the correct paper work, since its not a 4-h week this week. so my real question is can you do liberty if you are just walk/trot. no nasty answers please

Do you like Cataclysm?

First off, no fan-boys please. Second, lemme give ya some of my background with WoW. I have played since early TBC, never played vanilla, so comparisons to that have no effect on me. I quit about 3 months before Cata because I couldn't stand to see the world I loved turned into California after the great quake of 1906. Despite what everyone says, Blizzard had a great world and there was no need to revamp everything (this is my opinion remember and I want to know yours, so let's be civil when you eventually flame me :D). Personally, I would have just made the maelstrom accessible and put larger islands there as well. Also, I would have liked it if they forced people out of the goddamned cites! I always felt alone questing unless my friends were with me because of lack of people actually questing. There were always more people in instances then the open world of WoW which is really incredible. Some zones became dead because no one even bothered going there, like Azhara for example. I think they really should have attempted to bring back the old world pvp WoW was famous for from Vanilla (which I heard, never experienced) and from the days of TBC. Now from what I've seen and heard from reliable friends and sources, is that you are just herded along the grind path without experiencing the world because lower levels aren't as immersive as they once were. What I mean by this is that once, you saw the destination, but experienced and loved the journey. You leveled slow enough so that when you got tired of the grind, you screwed around the open world with your friends, which seems to just not exist anymore. These are my main problems that seem to not have been fixed in this expansion. Instead, apparently, they have just added compact zones, reskinned WoW, and completely F***ed with the stats in order to make it seem like they did something. But I digress, I have no experience of Cataclysm, so I'm asking you the question here. I don't know what it's actually like so I can't truly criticize it. So, under this long *** rant that I was dying to get out of my system is this, is WoW worth heading back into? Is it really just some new skins, quests, and stats? Or perhaps there is more? I would like to ask a broader community then my circle of friends.

My horse won't let me catch her in the field?

She's playing a game with you. It has nothing to do with how nice you are or aren't to her. The best way to deal with this is to get her into a small paddock and work on walking her down. You will keep her moving, even when she wants to stop, and finally when she stops and looks at you, you can turn around and walk away. Then walk back up to her. Scratch her withers and walk away again. Repeat this. Then when she's out in the big paddock, do the same thing. Don't always catch her and bring her in to ride her, but catch her up, scratch her withers and turn her loose. You can also give her a treat after you catch her, then turn her loose.

Should I re-buy a DS?

You could always buy the DS and the game. When you finish the game, if you get bored of it again, just resell it on Ebay to help pay for your car :)

I would try to save up so that you can pay the difference. If he's willing to pay 3000 dollars can you pay the extra 1000? And if he'll pay 200 a month can you work off the extra 90 plus the money for the farrier etcetera. If you can, great, go for it. If you can't, I'm sorry but I think you will have to let this one go. Domino's pizza in Melbourne?

I'm looking for opinions on Domino's pizza in Melbourne, Australia. Ideally from people with recent experiences(after they have revamped their menu). Also, what is the size(in inches) of the pizza? I could not find it on the website, or in the nutritional info. It appears they have one standard size, but is that the equivalent of a small, medium or large pizza? The only domino's near where I live is the one in Carlton( on grattan street, near the university of Melbourne) and I intend on picking it up myself. Guys and girls opinions? Is my boyfriend too amazing or am I just really insecure?

My boyfriend and I have been dating a year and a half. We used to check out other people, and it was no big deal. Then one time my boyfriend came out and said it bothered him when I checked out other guys because he felt he wasn't important enough. Anyone else find trotting extremely boring..?

I've been riding for 8 years and I absoulutley LOVE it, but during my lessons, I just don't seem to enjoy any schooling. I love jumping, absoulutley love it, but warming up just doesn't do anything for me. I seem to dread it. Why do so many young girls go through a phase of being obsessed with ponies?

I did too and don't understand why. What is it about little girls that sucks them into the equestrian world and then, quite often when they realize that it is not all pretty colours, trotting around and plaiting then they leave? It's just that i'm now the only one in my family who has actually stuck with horse riding from a young age and I'm curious as to why this is as my cousins have all stopped now. My dog being super dependent on me? i dunno what to do?

i have a 2 and half year old jack russel terrier mix . its amazing how shes so attached to me but lately its been starting to get annoying . i know that its a wonderful thing to bond with your dog but when it gets too much it wouldnt be so nice. i cant leave her alone for a minute . i disappear for a minute and she is just looking around for me whining , sometimes when shes asleep i have to try not to wake her up cuz if she does and i need to go to the bathroom she would just whine like im traveling to the moon . getting her out to play in the yard is also a challenge , she isnt curious one bit when shes on her own , if i take her to the park she wouldnt play with other dogs, she would just sit next to me or jump on my lap and stay there, if im around in the house shes curious enough to look around , but if im not then she would only care about me sitting where she is and wouldnt move an inch. i cant leave her with other people to take care of her cuz she would simply whine and keep sitting by the door even if i just need to go to the store real quick to get something . i really feel sorry for her , but i also need some alone time without her jumping all over me . i sometimes would just leave her out the room and close the door but id eventually open it cuz she would sit at the door and cry. is there anyway i can fix this? plz help !

A twisted wire bit is very harsh! If you start using this bit on your young horse, you will only have to keep getting harsher and harsher bits. You need to go back a few steps in your training to get her responding better to your aids; keep bending when she goes too fast. If you can, get some help from a good trainer.

Horse plaiting??? conformation?

Ah, my gelding used to move like this. He was very locked and stiff in the haunches and back. Once I did more loosening work like cavalettis, trot poles, long & low, trail riding, his trot got more forwards and dressage-y. However, this was after corrective trimming- he had splayed hooves when he plaited, but like I said, he moves freer and much more beautifully now. Yes, it is fixable. And MAYBE it could be his hooves.

How to slow down a pony's trot.?

I have gotten into a business deal with a lady I've known for years. We are selling a 14 hh Trakhener/Welsh cross. I had ridden him for her a few years ago, so I am familiar with him. He is very talented to be such an underdog. He's gone through training level eventing and he is really talented in dressage. However, there are two problems with our flatwork. 1) Since he is a pony, he does have very short, choppy strides when he trots. How can I help this? I have tried pushing him forward with my leg and seat, but he just speeds up. I need him to at least slow down his steps. Ideally, we could lengthen them as well. 2) Our canter is fabulous, but unfortunately our canter transitions are not. I can't seem to set him up well for neither the up or down canter transition, but I don't usually have problems doing that with any other horse. He's just very different from the horses I am used to riding.

I'd say between $2500 and $4500 depending on where you are located and where you bought her. Some areas have higher prices (like the Northeast US) and some places bring a better price (like Horsetopia ads VS. Craigslist). It would really depend on actually seeing her action while performing and disposition. Some buyers may be willing to pay more for a horse with those exact traits while others wouldn't pay so much. If you love her and are happy then you got a good deal. :D

Tips on retraining Western horse that was improperly trained in the first place?

It sounds like this poor horse is so confused, he doesn't know what to do. The owner obviously is not an accomplished rider and she wants to blame the horse for it. This is a training issue but the problem is the humans, not the horse.

I got a call from my mum today while I was at the city with my friends and she asked to me inquire about the watch that she wanted at this specific jewelry store. I knew what the watch looked like because my mum pointed it out before in the sale catalogue. I was looking at the ladies watches to find the watch that my mum wanted and as usual the saleswoman asked me if I needed any assistance. I replied no thank you and that I was just looking around. But she wouldn't leave me alone, she kept standing and there and asking me if I was purchasing a watch for my boyfriend (*sarcasm*yes because I would totally purchase a lady's watch for my non existent boyfriend). Before I had time to answer my friends thought it'd be amusing to shout 'YES." The saleswoman seemed surprise and she kept asking me if he was rich and handsome. She kept going off rather unprofessionally about my how supposedly lucky my non existent boyfriend was. At this point I was extremely embarrassed and very uncomfortable, but my *wonderful* peers decided to take advantage of the awkward moment and hint that my non existent boyfriend was an unemployed nobody. The saleswoman continued to patronize me saying that he probably had a secret hidden stash of money at home hidden from me and that he was a drug dealer. At this point nobody laughed not even my friends because I just stood there stunned. She walked away and I immediately left the store. I probably over reacted but the woman's intentions were to humiliate me which was a shame because I didn't tell my mum about that specific store and found another one with a better price on the watch. Dressage or Jumping...?

Hi, I have been riding since age three, and I am fifteen now, I am close to an olympic level jumper, as I can jump almost 2 meters, I own eleven horses ( possibly twelve) but I am on level 2 dressage, I can canter, walk, trot, and do a small amount of gallop, but for the past nine years I have focused only of hunter jumped,do you think I should train dressage, I own a gypsy vanner who has a level 8 dressage, and I was wondering if I should, do you prefer it to jumping?

Just ask yourself if this is what you want or the rest of your life.If he's making you cry all the time something is definitely wrong. Teaching my horse to jump?

Just spend a whole day getting her familiar with the jumps. Keep her in her halter and just lead her over the jumps. Starting at a walk. Once she gets the hang on it and actually jumps over stead of stepping over, then move onto the trot. You might need to motivate her with a carrot. Once again, trot them until she jumps. Same with canter, but this might be harder. Once she gets everything without tack, just try putting a saddle on her back and lead her over some jumps to get her comfortable. Next, you would get on her back in the saddle, and do the whole process over again. Walk over until she gets it. Trot until she gets it. Canter until she gets it. Don't give up. Only give her breaks when she's accomplished something. Make sure you praise her.

What's the best way to store flour?

I've heard air tight containers work best for keeping flour as well as keeping it in a Ziploc freezer bag, but in the freezer. What is truly best for longevity for flour? I'm wondering because we are revamping a pantry and if I can save money from not purchasing containers we'll be able to use funds for other projects. We've seen some of those very cool, very expensive OXO Pop Top clear acrylic containers. Just don't want to spend a ton unnecessarily on things like that if storing flour in the freezer will suffice. Building muscle on an older horse...?

Recently i've heard (from a good friend/trainer) that, for building muscle, "trotting builds muscle and running takes it away". I need them to lose weight too, which before i got great results by running them for 5 minutes. I need my halter horse/pleasure horse with muscle (he's naturally stacked but is too fat). So should i trot him the whole time to gain muscle or lope him to lose weight at the risk of losing muscle? over time i'm sure he would lose weight by trotting but i don't have long... Is he right on some degree or is it crap information? what else can i do for building muscle, i already do alot on hillsides....

Problems with leading ponies?

I sometimes help out at my local stables and i am asked to lead ponies in the lead rein lessons. but when i ask the pony to trot, i find that it will just speed off (any pony) and i get left behind or the pony will pull to go faster. i have tried running faster and pulling back harder but these just in courage the pony to trot faster. i don't really feel in control. do you have any tips for leading a pony? thanks

Serious horse problem: How to deal with a horse who refuses to move...but isn't lazy or in pain?

I had an mare that was like this. The trainer I had her at was doing Natural horsemanship with her. And we started riding her in a round pen If you went more than 3 circles in the same gait she would just stop and wouldn't move not even popping her with a lunge whip helped and then we had the same problem when we got into the riding ring (she got so bad she wouldnt even go in a riding ring)so my trainer set up poles and barrels In the ring and we would walk around a few time and then go to one of the obstacles For a minute or two and go back to going around the ring and then we would finish by trail riding her. after a while she learned to bare the thought of the riding ring and round pen because she wanted to go run threw the woods with the other horses.

Back in High School I used to be the nicest guy in the world because that's what I thought women wanted. I learned how to play guitar, would write songs for girls all that typical cliche' nice guy stuff. Question about bareback riding?

Today when I rode my pony bareback I noticed something. My mare has a wonderful smooth trot, that takes little to no effort to post or sit. It's almost like natural posting. It's great. But when I trot bareback, it seems like her spine curves on the step where I go down when posting. I'm afraid I'm hurting her.. Under saddle her ears are always up and alert but bareback they kind of droop back. Not pinned, but midway between up and back. Could I be hurting her? Horse Calcification! Any opinions?

I think that so long as you take the vet's advice and not push the horse past her limits that she'd be an okay match for you. I would test her out first though & ask to take her out on a trail if that's what you plan to do with her mostly. She should be a smooth easy ride & close to bomb proof as you wouldn't want her to spook on any trails. I would also recommend hiring your own vet to perform an overall health evaluation of the horse before you buy her.

Restart a garden from an old one?

A lot depends on when you want to start your vegetable garden. Here in central Florida, prime season to start seeds is already over except for a few heat hardy types until fall, when our cycle starts again. If you want to plant fairly soon, I'd till and then pick out the big parts, add a lot of organic matter (such as composted horse manure you can usually get free at any local stable), and peat which is inexpensive, organic and helps hold water. When you put plastic on top to kill weeds etc. it takes at least a month in warm sunlight to get hot enough, so if you live in a climate that you won't be starting anything outside soon it's a great idea (our home extension service says to use clear plastic, it works better and faster, and I also suggest you call your local extension service for questions on what is best for your location). If you have time, there are plenty of seeds you can start indoors or in a cold frame before it's warm enough to transplant them outside- good luck!

I am hoping that you can help us. We just moved from California to give a better life to our 3 kids age 9, 7 and 1. We are staying in a 5th wheel trailer at a KOA camp until we close on our house. Everything that we own was in a storage unit by the airport. On Sat. June 23, 2011, we went to go put some stuff in our storage unit only to find that we had been robbed. All of our family air looms, kids toys, most of our clothes, my husband’s tools, all of our hunting, fishing and camping equipment even our silverware and files are gone. Anything that was in a box is gone. We have lived in California, in some not so nice areas and have never had anything like this happen to us. The storage facility has gone over video tape to see if they can catch the person, however they are telling us that there is nothing they can do about any of our things and they are not liable. The storage found the man who took all of our things as well as 7 other storage units and the police will not do anything. They have told us they will assign a detective in 10 to 12 days. I had hoped that Utah would be a better place then what we have experienced. I do not care about most of the things. I only want to try to get the family air looms back. Some of those have been in our family for 4 generations. Please if there is anything that you could do to help that would be wonderful. Thank you.

What I have to say you wont like but it sounds like it needs to be said. I dont know how old this horse is or what a lease horse really is but if you have problems him maybe you should have someone with more experience and that doesnt work where you keep this horse look at him and see what they think of him. You dont want to buy a horse then learn you need a trainer to fix problems. I am not saying this is not a good horse. But have someone not involved with the sale of this horse look at this horse before you get attached and end up in a bad deal.

Weird horse situation, any advice?

My horse used to be really easy to catch but lately when I go out to get him, he trots away to his pasture mate and bites or kicks them...then the other horses move away and he chases after them, which causes them to kick him. i lease/loan if you have any local barns. I rode my pony before him owners bought him so when they bought him they let me lease/loan him and i am 12 so i think it would be fine, it just depends on the person, at my barn it cost 500 dollars to lease/loan but it depends on the owner, facilities they have, barn, etc.

I wouldnt really say she chipped it. My horse fractured his pastern and it looked quite different. Maybe she tore a muscle or ligament. Hosing it down would help a lot with the swelling. I personally like to trot better even though I canter waaaaay more for flag team. Its not that I dont like to canter its just that I find just trotting along more relaxing. Trotting to music is so much fun. :)

Why won't any treatment work against my depression?

I've been dealing with this bullshit now for 8 years since i developed post traumatic stress from cancer at age 12. I'm turning 20 in a few weeks. which means i've been depressed for 2/5 of my life. I have have been on every anti-depressant, mood stimulants, anti-anxiety, attention deficit medications. Nothing helped me. I was on anti depressants for 3 years and never saw a change in mood. I have been to years of out patient therapy, 1 year impatient therapy. I spent 1 year revamping myself (got into shape, got a rhinoplasty hoping i could rebirth myself) When I got to college, I fell back into heavier depression. I don't leave my dorm room, i have no friends, i cant concentrate, im always existed. My family now seems to busy and lost int rest in helping me. Guess they just gave up. If i wasn't so apathetic on everything I would have killed myself already. One of my regrets are that I didn't kill myself 3 years ago.

Working with a green horse?

I have a quarter horse gelding. He is a little older than 10 and I was the first one to do anything with him. He strives to learn and does so quickly, but he gets easily bored with just doing groundwork and walking in circles or around poles. I have had him for three years and I have been riding him. He does a great job especially when on the trails. I have not started changing gaits yet, though. A few times we got into a trot, but i did not cue him into it, and he got skittish when I asked him to walk again. So I would just like to know how exactly I should introduce him to trotting/loping/galloping with a rider on his back. Thanks

Is my blood pressure a little low? Or normal?

I have a home blood pressure monitor, Omron. In March/April it was very high due to excessive drinking. As high as 160/90. Im only 19 years old by the way, just turned 19 in March. But anyway, since ive became pregnant (NOT A RANDOM DRUNKEN PREGNANCY BY THE WAY!; im in a long term relationship with a wonderful man) and stopped drinking my blood pressure has been usually in the range of 123/89 to 110/60. Anyway, just took it and it was 110/51, i know the bottom number is lower than recommended, is this bad? And also, can pregnancy cause your blood pressure to lower? Ive always thought it could and thats one of the reasons i had a feeling i was pregnant. Answers would be awesome! Thanks! :)

I Really Need Help! It's Important?

I have been having problems with my horse, Raymey. She is a TB/QH cross, appendix QH if you prefer, she stands 16.1 hands tall or so and is jet black. She was once a polo horse. She is eight or nine years old, not registered. Anyway, lately she has gotten into the habit of refusing to work at random points in our rides. Sometimes at the walk, sometimes at the trot, and most often when I ask her to canter. She'll canter fine on one lead, but the other she refuses to pick up. She actually won't even canter on that track. But my biggest problem is when she does this at a walk or trot, because my beginner friend is taking her on a trail ride with me this weekend. I want to know why she's doing this. What she does is pin back her ears toss her head and refuse to go. I can MAKE her, but once had her rear when I tried. I don't want this to happen to my friend. I think she is trying to tell me something, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is. Her legs and hooves seem fine, though there is an old injury on one hind leg that is proud flesh now. Could that be bothering her? I've seen no other signs of lameness. She does, when she canters in the field, lower her head to a few inches above the ground and toss it. Does that mean anything or is she just enjoying herself? Another thing I've noticed is that she didn't used to do this. She would stop and not want to start again, but she was much less firm about not starting again. She has NEVER reared before that one time. Which is why I think something is wrong. I've checked her tack and it all seems to fit well, but I did get a new pad that is built up in the shoulders (I didn't know this on the phone with the person selling it and both my mom and my grandpa kind of pushed me to get it even though I wasn't thrilled about the built up front) and I was wondering if that could be making the saddle fit less comfortably for her. I've checked for injuries and sore areas and have so far found none. So, what do you guys think? PLEASE answer, I will choose best and answer any of your questions that I can!

Funny things you've seen your horses do?

My horse chigger rolls after i get done riding him, EVERY TIME. one time i hadnt even gotten the saddle of yet and he started rolling, He trys to eat anything thats orange, (hes addicted to carrots). He doesnt like apples or sugar cubes or horse treats you buy, he only likes carrots and corn husks. Every time you give him grain he gets a big bite then lifts his head up to say hi and drops his grain all over you.(: hes a funny horse and i love him(:

I ride western and need to know how to protect my jewels while riding because when trotting I bounce hard slamming them into the horse saddle and idw this to prevent me from having kids what do most people do bout this problem be nice and not dumb answers

Is lunging bad for a horse?

False! lunging is actually good especially to horses who arent ridable as it is a way to give them controlled exercise. pros basically about everything! gives them exercise, also helps warm them up so if you are riding next, you dont have to warm they up as much, creates trust and a bond, helps you learn your horse, gives you more experience... cons would really only be if you have a grumpy horse who likes to kick (like my TB gelding used to be) or if they are stubborn and your not firm enough so they just stand or something lol! (: i always lung my gelding before riding as he can be a butt and it helps me predict his temperment for that ride.

Slowing my horses canter?

Try making sure he's collected when you go into the canter, I had this same problem a while ago. Talking in a calm voice helps, and try turning him in a full circle when you get to the corner of your arena, that helped me alot. I know clinton anderson says to just keep cantering them, becuse eventually He'll get tired ;)

When I read your question I didn't think it sounded like you were bragging at all. If you want to show you need to talk to your trainer. Even if she doesn't think you will be ready she will know that you are interested in more competitive showing and can help you get to where you need to be for future shows. I say go for it!

So I thought I noticed my horse resting his left back leg a lot today. (I just came home from vacation last night so idk what happened..i think it happened in the pasture) anyways.. he was acting kinda sluggish when I first got on him. Walking was ok but trotting him he seemed to drag his hoof a lil..I thought it was cause his hooves need trimmed..We cantered and he was fine, trot felt odd but his canter was good. Then I was trotting him on the left diagonal and it felt fine so I switched just to work on my right diagonal, i could hardly post to it at all and he started like limping in his left back leg. We went home and I put liniment on all four legs and wraped them with my quilt wraps that I have. What else should I do???

I would say leave him in for a day or two. When my mare got hurt on an escape attempt, she ran around a lot and the bandage came off and the cuts got nice and dirty. I would also let him have a week or two off from riding just in case. Hope Hollywood gets better soon!

Dreaming about my ex every night, why?! Do I still love him? Please answer?

So I dream about my ex boyfriend every night. We were together for a few years, but he turned out to be a major jerk. I'm with someone else now, and totally love my current boyfriend. I've been with my current boyfriend for a little over a year. The big problem is that I can't stop dreaming about my ex. I have sex dreams about him, dreams of him saving me from disasters, dreams of running up to him and kissing him, dreams of marrying him! It's driving me crazy, because I hate dreaming about someone who was so horrible to me. It's like I can't get him out of my mind. He lives in another state now though, and I haven't seen him for years! I don't even have him as a facebook friend, but my friend does. I sometimes look at his profile through my friends profile. I'm wondering if this is making me dream about him? He's so wonderful in the dreams, that I sometimes wake up crying. He doesn't have anything that my current boyfriend doesn't though. So how do I get him out of my dreams, and out of my mind FOREVER!?

Do drug dealers, politicians and law enforcement profit from the "War on Drugs"?

I mean, I understand it's the politicians fault for not revamping the system and ignoring what the people want. Look up any statistical poll and majority of Americans believe the Drug War is a complete failure. I blame money hungry politicians and people who are high up in the law enforcement community for keeping the status quo when are system needs to be revamped. How did the government ever get involved with trying to moderate human behavior and trying to enforce morality on people? I mean, you can't tell me locking up massive amounts of people have helped our country deal with a drug problem. Also, don't give me that same old rhetoric "well drugs destroys lives"...Well so do guns, cigarettes and alcohol. In fact, my closest family member has an extreme alcohol addiction and the last thing I would want is for her to be locked up for her addiction...and yet we continue to lock up people for choosing a different vice. Fact is, prohibiting anything never works, it just creates more violence, more addicts and more profits...Doesn't that mean the politicians, law enforcement and drug dealers are all on the same side in the end since they are the only ones who profit from the "War on Drugs"? I think it's pretty sickening if you ask me.

Can my horse go right back into work?

A normal warm up should be adequate. There is no reason for her to be stiff. She is only 6 and getting injections? That is really too bad. I'm so sorry. did she have a really bad injury? or did you mean she has arthritis at 6 years bad enough for injections? Sorry, just kind of confusing.
