How can i get my horse to jump?

Well, not really my horse. The horse i ride at my riding school used to be a games pony and in pony club with jumping and stuff. But i have trouble with getting him to jump, now. I trot him round round the school first, to warm him up and prepare him but when we are near the jump he walks and just steps over it. How can i get him to jump?
