Can Metformin Help Pregnancy or Hurt it? PCOS and trying to conceive.?

Metformin is used sometimes in pregnant women for either pre-existing or gestational diabetes. However like any drug, its risks and benefits must be weighed up for each person. Metformin when used for PCOS helps improve insulin sensitivity, aids weight reduction and helps to normalise the menstrual cycle by increasing the rate of spontaneous ovulation. Unfortunately there are many reasons for miscarriage, including low progesterone. PCOS is also a risk factor for miscarriage and it has been suggested that metformin may help with this, although the evidence is conflicting. If you're worried about taking metformin or the reason for your miscarriage then you should discuss these issues with your specialist.
