Twh for Barrel Racing?

Hi, I have a wonderful Tennesse Walker/ Pony mixed mare that I want to do Barrels on. She is 5 (which I know Is young), Not gaited, REALLY fast and has an Awesome temperment. I have had my mare for over a year now and mostly trail ride on her. All my friends barrel race and I just really want to get into it. Almost everybody even my aunt who is a pro. pleasure shower says she has an awesome non gaited walk and trot but, im not really into that. Do you think it would be a good Idea to do barrels on her? Are what would be another good event you think she would be good in? Thanks so much for your help and input on my sisutation! :)
